![]() The effects of various irradiation and extraction conditions and thermal annealing on the organic retentions were studied. Szilard-Chalmers Reactions in Metal Porphines, The Szilard-Chalmers reaction was investigated in tetraphenylporphines of Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pd, and Ft. Some preliminary results for 45-Mev proton bombardments are discussed. Nuclear recoils from U/sup 238/ fission induced by 150-Mev protons were studied, and calculated recoil parameters and kinetic energies are presented for Cu/sup 64/, Cu/sup 64/, Ga/sup 72/, Sr/sup 91/, P d/sup 112/, Ag/sup 111/ Ag/sup 112/, Ag/sup 112/, Ag/sup 1/1/sup >/s3>s, In/sup 117//sup m/ Ba/sup 139/, and Ba/sup 140/ together with momentum transferred and deposition energies. Recoil Studies of Uranium Fission Fragments. The results indicate that a compound-nucleus mechanism is not involved. The cross section for In/sup 117//sup g/ is approximately 0.5 mb at 27 Mev and decreases somewhat with decreasing energy, while that for In/sup 117//sup m/ is -0.15 mb at 27 Mev and nearly independent of energy. lsomeric ratios were measured for the In/sup 115/ ( alpha ,2p) reaction at alpha energies of 23 to 27 Mev. Studies of the In/sup 1> / 5>s ( alpha ,2p)In/sup 117/ Reaction. (amma spectrum decay analysis gave a half life of in/sup 117//sup m/ as 1.93 plus or minus 0.04 hr and of In/sup 117//sup g/ as 38.0 plus or minus 0.5 min, in agreement with Nuclear Data Sheets but in disagreement with McGinnis' 1.1-hr value for the half life of ln/sup 117//sup g/. Cadmium metal was irradiated by 14- and 5-Mev deuterons and subjected to radiochemical separation. Isomeric ratios were measured for the ( alpha ,2p), ( alpha ,n), and ( alpha ,2n) reactions of Nb/sup 93/. ![]() The results are discussed with reference to rsnge ratios, compound-nucleus theory, and evaporation effects. Product recoil ranges are also reported for the reactions Ni/sup 58/( alpha, alpha p) and ( alpha, alpha n), Ni/sup 6 / 0>s ( alpha ,2n), Cu/sup 65/( alpha 2n) Cu/sup 63/( alpha 2n) and ( alpha ,pn), and Cu ( alpha, an) at alpha energies of 25 to 30 Mev Zn/ sup 62/ was found to have a shorter average range than Ni/sup 57/ more ยป and Co/sup 57/. The recoil rsnges of cobalt nuclides formed in alpha-irradiated manganese were measured for alpha energies of 19, 23, and 27 Mev and normalized to that of Co/sup 57/.
